Passport
Services
The Yancey County Clerk of Superior Court’s office has been recognized by
the United States Secretary of State’s office as a passport agent
with authority to accept applications. Passport
applications for new applicants as well as renewal applications are
available in the Yancey County Clerk’s office or you may go to the site
provided by the Secretary of State to download an application.
All applications must be typed or printed legibly in black
ink. An application that is illegible
or that is incomplete may result in delay. Each passport application shall
be accompanied by evidence of citizenship of the applicant as well
as identification documentation. An original birth certificate
with a raised seal shall be considered as evidence of citizenship.
A duly issued driver’s license may be used for identification
purposes.
All applications must be accompanied by two identical photographs
taken within 6 months which shall present a clear likeness of the
applicant. Said photographs
shall be 2 x2 inches in size and the image size measured from the bottom
of the chin to the top of the head shall be not less than 1 inch nor more
than 1 3/8 inches. Passport
photographs must be in color.
All applications must be signed in person in the Clerk’s office
before one of our employees.
Renewal applicants may submit form DSP-82 together with their
previous passport provided same was issued after their 16th
birthday and within the last 15 years.
Applications
for minors require evidence of citizenship together with evidence
to show that they are the parents of said minor child. Applications for children under
the age of 16 require both parent's signatures but the child need
not sign. Children,
16 and over, shall sign their applications and need only one parent’s
signature .Each minor child applying for a passport book or passport card must appear in person.
You may now apply for a passport book or a passport card, or both. The card can ONLY be used for land and sea border crossings in the Western Hemisphere. Passport books may be used for land, sea, and air crossings. Just remember
"Cards don't fly - you must have a book to fly."

PASSPORT RENEWAL (Form DSP
–82)
You
may use a Form DSP-82 if your previous passport meets the following
conditions:
1)
Was issued when you were 16 or older.
2)
Was issued in the last 15 years.
3) Has
the same name as on a previous passport or you have had your name
changed by marriage or court order.
4)
Is submitted with your application.

EXPEDITED SERVICE
– add $60 for each application
Applicants
using Expedited Service may generally expect to receive their passports
within 3 weeks provided they arrange for overnight delivery service
for returning their passport. |
